This was the sweetest 8 month old baby girl photo session! This adorable little brown-eyed beauty just loved being the center of attention. Capturing babies between 6 months and 10 months old is the best age to photograph your baby for a variety of reasons. Photo sessions of babies between 6 and 10 months are called sitter sessions. Sitter Sessions are for babies approximately 6-10 months old or when your baby is sitting securely on their own and before they start to walk. Some parents plan on getting newborns photos, but if the newborn time frame is missed (before 2 weeks old), the next best phase to photograph your baby is when they can sit up on their own. When a baby can sit up, there are a lot of fun things you can do with them and during this age, the smiles are usually easily obtained. I personally like to get images with lots of cute chubby features showing and then a few in an adorable outfit. With this baby girl photo session, we did a variety of images with a tutu, dress and just a diaper.
At this age they tend to be very easy to entertain and they can’t get up and move around. You can sit them in a bucket, bowl or on the floor and they smile and are curious about their new surroundings.
Another plus regarding sitter sessions is they tend to be much shorter, usually about 45 minutes to an hour and this includes a variety of poses and prop and backdrop set ups. With this baby girl photo session, we used 4 backdrops and a variety of props including a little bathtub! Best of all, the images you get at this age are so adorable. Capturing babies spontaneously laughing and smiling is the best. Most parents don’t realize how long it can take to do even a simple newborn session which can run anywhere from 3-5 hours due to nursing, and getting baby to sleep.
When your baby is at the sitter stage, it is so much easier to connect and get smiles because they are not at the bashful stage and the photographer is not looked up as the weird stranger your baby doesn’t like.
Last but not least, babies around 6-10 months are so adorable with their chubby little bodies, big round eyes and their spontaneous smiles. This is definitely a time in your babies life you will want preserved.
